Another Oldie

This painting of a giant was made during my studies at the Art Academy and is one of the illustrations from a book I was busy with at that time. Although the book was never finished, it was my first serious attempt to illustrate a children’s story. I painted this piece in watercolors, and one can easily see that I was heavily inspired and influenced by Alan Lee’s art.

  1. Really Fabulous Petar. I know you are an oil painter but you could have easily go with watercolour.

    1. I used to paint in watercolor at the beginning of my career. It was only after I entered the art academy that I discovered oils, and it was love at first sight… :-)
      Thanks, Larry.

  2. Petar, I LOVE these 'old' watercolour pictures. A bit of Alan Lee, a bit of Sergio Toppi I guess, and quite a lot of Petar Meseldžija yet. Wonderful! I am really looking forward to your artbook.

  3. Can I get the book "The art of Petar Meseldžija" from any other place other than the Dutch website, for example bookstores in Belgrade or even directly from you?

    1. Hi,
Unfortunately, and for the time being, the only place you can get this book from is the website of the Dutch publisher. I would be extremely happy if only one of many bookstores in Belgrade would be willing to sell this book, but I am afraid it will stay one of these unfulfilled dreams of mine.
      :-)
Inace, sledeci put moze i na srpskom :-)

  4. Beautiful.
Inspired by Allan Lee but perhaps also Sergio Toppi am I wrong? the texture work of the watercolor and the absence of paint in a geometrical simplification of the background reminds me the watercolors of this amazing artist.

  5. No Sergio Toppi ... when I painted this illustration I barely knew Toppi's art, only some of his comic work. I was not yet completely ready for such a level of artistry.
