The Art of Petar Meseldzija

I am very happy to announce that Dark Dragon Books has decided to publish a book of my art, titled The Art of Petar Meseldzija. This book  will include a selection of paintings and drawings  from the past 25 years,  with the emphasis on the fantasy  themed  works. The book will have about  140 pages, and the text will be in English.

I will be collaborating with Dragan Bibin on this project.  Apart from being a brilliant illustrator, Dragan is also an accomplished designer who generously agreed to help me with the lay-out of the book.

I have been trying for some time to find a publisher for this book, but without success. Most of the publishers I approached admired the art, but at the same time they thought that it would be financially too risky for them to invest in a book of an artist whose profile is not yet “high enough in the US”, to quote from a recent reply I got from a publisher. In other words, they think that, in spite of the quality of my work, my name still does not resonate enough with profit and prestige.
However, thanks to Amin Gemei, the founder and the publisher of Dark Dragon Books, his vision, bravery (willingness to take the risk) and his trust in my art, I will be finally able to present you with this art book.

  5. Thank you, guys! We will do our best to produce a very nice book and make sure that you, us, everybody is happy and content with the results. Dark Dragon Books is already very known because of the high quality printing and the exquisite production of their books. Therefore I expect no less than a visually stunning book.

The book will be released next year, hopefully before the summer so that I can officially present it in the US during the next Illuxcon show in September.

  9. It's great! Finally book that you've long deserved. Very good design, but in my humble opinion, maybe too classic. Although you paint classical themes, you have a very dynamic brush strokes, so you and Bibin might consider a little more dynamic design. Maybe you should think about younger audience who likes a "faster layouts" ;)

    1. That is a good point, Ivica! But, you know me, I am an old-fashioned, classic guy, who mostly don’t thinking enough about audience. This makes me not a very good commercial artist
      :-)

But there are things that are more important to me when it comes to this book, than just answering to the expectations of the audience. Bibin and I will try to find the best possible visual expression of the essence of my art. If my art can mainly be characterized as classic, well… let then the design of the book show that side of my work.

However, having in mind the beautiful, elegant and freshly dynamic lay-out of my Esmeralda book, that you have designed, I think I will seriously take your suggestion in consideration.
      Thanks, friend!
