Here are a few rough sketches and the final preliminary drawing for the
new painting titled “Giant Velles Protecting the Holy Oak-Tree”. This is a
private commission, but once it's finished, it will be included in my upcoming
book on Giants. There is a nice story, although a little sad, that goes with
the painting.
I love the narrative of this piece–any chance you'd be able to share the accompanying story?
ReplyDeleteI am sorry Seth, but I can’t share the story before the book is published. :-)
DeleteI'll have to see if I can get my hands on a copy of the book, then. Will it be available in the US?
DeleteYes, of course... The book will be published by Flesk Publications from the US.
DeleteGreat piece of work! very dynamic :)
ReplyDeleteSay, either you practice Bohurt yourself or you used a picture of Bohurt to realize this piece of work, am I right? I may be wrong but these leather mittens are very caracteristic of the discipline.
Yes, you are right! I often use the pictures of Bohurt as a reference. I shoot them during the medieval festivals which are organized regularly not too far from where I live. Although I don’t practice Bohurt myself, I find it very interesting and inspiring to see.
DeleteI knew it. :)
DeleteWell I find your art very interesting and inspiring to see too :)
....Prelims?....Roughs??....Where...?
ReplyDelete:-)
DeleteAs artists we often complain that we can't achieve the freshness in finished work that we do with our sketches and drawings. Your work remains fresh through the entire process culminating with the freshest step of all when paint is applied. Sign of a true painter.
ReplyDeleteWell, Bill, that is what we are trying to achieve all the time. Show the best you have not before the final act, the crescendo! Right!? :-)
